Tires making a humming noise, help!

I just bought a set of rims and tires for $250, it was basically a steal. The guy just wanted to get rid of them. They look great but they hum a lot while driving. Does this mean that the tires are doing this and i cannot make it go away unless i get new tires or what?

Talon TR968, i know they aren't the greatest tires in the world, but is there any way to even cut down on the humming noise?

How deep is the tread? Humming tends to occur on deeper tread tires (for example, an offroad jeep tire).

That's usually the case. The more aggressive tread patterns tend to make more noise. The only other thing that can cause that is if the tires are cupped (usually caused by lack of rotating the back tires to the front); but I think you would feel that along with hearing it. How much tread is left on the tires? If a lot, I would just live with it and use these tires until it's time for new ones.

tread pattern and rubber compound can make a worlds of difference between different tires.

i just bought a set of wheels and tires 2 weeks back. they came with 2 season old pirelli supersport p7000's mounted on all four. they are nice with lots of tread left too but they humm like yours do. i read reviews on the tires and apparently they are kinda noisy although efficient when it comes to performance. read some reviews and see if its supposed to be like that. any shaking in the steering column? and drifting one way or another without driver input?

Do an online search for your tires. See what other people are saying about them. They may just be a noisy tire which and the noise you are hearing may be perfectly normal for them. If that's the case, use them until time for new ones. Why throw out money. IMHO.
