4th Generation what to do first?

so im pretty new to the forum, and i just got my new (new to me) used 97 camry le

anyway, i was wondering what you guys think i might do with the engine first? i was kind of thinking intake but idt that there is a cold air intake for the camry so idk about that, but i would like to give the engine a little nicer sound and maybe a little 'pop' (although i realize that the 'pop' on a camry 4 cyl is hard to get lol)

thnx

Always make sure all sytems are in good running order before doing any mods.
After that , 1st order of business is to lessen intake and exhaust restrictions. Then you need to determine what your goals are for the car and plan how you want to get it there.Horsepower, drag racing, auto X, Or just a nice street ride.

thnx guys!

so i have been looking at intake systems, and from what i can tell cold air intake is more effective but like i said, i cant seem to find one. does anyone know how i might achieve this? i have heard rumors about cannablizing a civic cai but this sounds iffy...

i believe from my experience is that you gotta build a custom cold air intake for our cams.

i just got the spectre piping from checkers..its cheap but its all the same i think and just added on whatever filter your feelin. if you dont wana spend alot get the spectre filter or k&n.

if i could, i would take back all the things i did to my cam and get a pair of nice black with chrome lip rims. all the mods youd be spending your money into wont even look complete without nice shoes.

Yeah, cars are money pits!
CAI is a good start, but don't expect more than 2 or 3 of HP from it on it's own. Especially with an N/A. You will get better throttle response .
If you want some power gains you can feel, couple that with a header and a freer flowing exhaust. That might net you 10-15hp.

LOL

I suck @ typing. I meant, "you've been here before, haven't you?" You covered all the bases with your intro question!

They're not hard to fabricate. Just get some IC piping-aluminum or SS -of proper diameter, hose or couplers, clamps and a filter.

Dont stress over which intake is better, there wont be a decent power difference between a cold air or a short ram intake despite what common sense says.

Everyone says that, but honestly, I notice a fair difference when my engine bay is dead cold in the morning and when it heats up from driving/parking in the sun during the day. You'll want to make a CAI and it's not that expensive if you DIY. Camry engine bays get HOT!

Edit: i have an SRI
