3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hello TN, im not really new to TN as i have been browsing this site for some years reading up on the Gen 3 camry forums. Right now i drive a 1994 toyota camry 2.2l and the car has been in the family ever since i was 4 years old (when it was new off the lot) so i trust that this car is very reliable, no major issues in the past. Anyway i've been researching diff. parts for the 4 cyl cams for some time now and all i have so far is a Weapon R Secret intake.. gives the cam a really nice sound and a slight noticable HP gain (haven't installed the ram air kit yet). Reading these forums i've come to realize that modding a 5sfe can be quite difficult. im not trying to make this car a race car or anything.. just want some hp gains and body work, it seems like a turbo (3sgte parts) may be quite expensive and not worth the hassle with all the emissions shit. Future plans include new suspension (prob. kyb struts, haven't decided on which lowering springs) ..... new paint job (nothing too expensive)... projectors, light weight flywheel maybe?..... performance mods(throttle body, exhaust, new spark plugs/ wires....maybe headers).... thought about a 3sgte swap but that sounds like its expensive as hell ans complicated to mount... thought about a turbo with low boost,,but im not sure if that would be worth it...?
I'd appreciate any feedback or opinions on what i should or should not do to this car.... and getting a new car is out the question...lol
figure out what ya want to start with and what your budget is and go from there. searching each question ya have will usually yeild the most anwsers, and if it doesnt, it will tell ya what ya need to ask to get the anwser your lookin for and we can anwser well.
Drop whatever plan u want to do. Sell the car, add a couple more pennies, get a V6. We will go from there...
What he said. Now if want an engine with less parts, is easier to repair and gets better MPG just cruise the Cam 4cyl. It is really expensive to get any extra measurable HP from the 4cyl.

thanks for the fast responses... but like i said im not selling.. its a perfectly good running car... but im not gonna sink a shit load of money into it
BTW.. anyone have any experience with Fidanza flywheels?
the biggest problem is time and money. if ya have enough of both then its a relativly simple swap. saving for and buying a V6 would still be my first option.
