4th Generation High Engine Temp...Water Pump?

Hey guys...Havent been on for awhile due to no access to the net..haha
Anyways, awhile back I posted a thread about the rising temp of the engine..
That the temp gauge would go up to about 3/4 then it would slowly go back down...

Well this time around, the temp is constant, but when engine has been
running for a long drive the temp would go up abit pass center..
If it reaches 3/4 the way up on the gauge, most of the time it would only
go back down to normal is when the car accelerates...from 1 to 2.5-3 rpm..
or when cruising...

My question is, Is it the water pump?

What is the average price to replace the pump and timing belt all together..?

Any info is appreciated...
Thanks...

Seems as though it's the waterpump if the temperature goes down as you increase the engine speed and not land speed. Have you tried flushing your cooling system and reverse flushing the radiator? That could help. If you're going to install a new waterpump, you should flush it since you're already dropping the fluid.

I've seen timing belt kits including waterpumps for $140 in AU, probavly the same price if not a bit lower in the US. Now sure about labour costs though.

Have you checked to see if the fans are coming on?

3rd Generation

i had the same prob but in my gen 3 cam. it turned out to be my radiator which had developed some leaks after the car ran dry without coolant. check for leaks. it could be something more minor

The fans do come on, but the fluid doesnt seem to flow till the engine
increases speed...
Once the car is moving, it cools down back to normal/near normal...

Is there any way to tell if a water pump is going bad?

Confirm the radiator is full of coolent..Run the engine, get to operating temp, with your hand squeeze the upper radiator hose while the car is at idle..You are feeling for pressure, then give the engine some rpm's and squeeze the upper hose again if there is a difference in pressure the pump is shot..DO NOT overheat your cars engine It'll be the end of er...Good luck..Dave

I would put in a new thermostat, flush the radiator good with a hose. If the water comes out slowly outta the drain plug on the rad, it could possibly be plugged.

If the pumps bad it should start leaking a bit, but not always. My water pump seized last week and it didn't leak at all before it died/exploded.
