4th Generation Paint Pricing

Ok, well I want to get a top off coat of paint for my camry. It's black, but kinda dull (even after polish and wax) and has a lot of orangepeel. About how much should a new top coat of black and a nice layer of clear cost?

More than the car is probably worth.

Realistically, I've read from anywhere around $1,000-2,500 for a good job.

I was in the body shop business for 11 years. You're looking at more like 3-5 k for a good job. For a decent job, just send it to MAACO. It gets the job done.

if you gonna get black, definatley invest more money into the paint, black is the hardest color to spray because you can see ALL and EVERY defect in the body panel and paint itself. Taking it to Macco, you might as well through out all your money cuz you are gonna have orange peel galore with black from them, especially if you go with their Ambassador paint crap. Either live with it (possibly try to clay bar it) or invest to get a good black paint job.

Take your car in to get estimates, they should be free n that way you can find the cheapest place to do it.

Or change the entire color of the car to something lighter like i did

I was told it'd be $4-5k to get my camry repainted with a proper paint job, so I decided not to bother!

yea it is the same car , i decided to do the conversion before repainting the entire car. This resulted from an accident i was involved in with a damn taxi driver. Since i was gettin a nice chunk of change, i decided to go ahead n paint the entire car rather than just the damaged panels cuz the biege i had before is very difficult to color match/blend.

thanks for the responses, i suck at polishing so thats out of the question. It would really be that expensive just for an additional layer of black and clear? wow, guess thats out then

In here where I live, the cheapest paint job would be at Maaco, around $500, the most expensive one I found is $4000. But I searched a little more and I found another shop, they do it for $1200, using 2 stage paint, color, then clear coat. That's where I probably will go next year to get my car painted.
So if you look around you may find a decent shop for a good price.
