3rd Generation Looking for 5S-FE Air Conditioning Diagram or Help Finding a Leak

Hey guys,

I'm working on the lady's '93 Camry with the 4-cyl 5S-FE engine in it. She's got a freon leak. The system is an R12 system that has been converted to R134a. After recharging, the system no longer blows cold air and loses pressure after about 12 hours. I put the UV leak dye through the system and can't find anything via a small UV light but am not familiar with the layout of the system.

Is there a common leak point with these systems that I should check (and its location?) - and does anyone know of an online diagram of the layout of the system in this vehicle?

Thanks!

EDIT: I found an excellent Diagram in the Factory Service Manual which is available here: http://www.camrystuff.com/manuals/Gen3/ac.pdf and more here: http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic497839.htm

Take your UV light and look through your grille. You'll be looking at the condenser core. The line fittings bolt in on opposing sides and will be facing towards you. Check those as the seals may be leaking. This will also give you an opportunity to inspect the core for any obvious damage i.e., rocks, sticks, birds or any other foreign object the may have made a puncture. Also check the fittings that bolt onto the compressor. Good luck.

Leak on back side of condensor would be impossible to see with UV light as would if in evaporator. Sniffer would be only hope of detecting leaks there. I'd check the compressor shaft seal as that's a dynamic seal prone to wear. The dye may not have had time yet to fully circulate and accumulate on outside of leak. Black greasy build-up behind compressor clutch would point to shaft seal. R134a leaks faster than R12 so system needs to be very tight. Old and degrading hoses will also leak R134a, espaecially high pressure. I'd get a tech to use a sniffer.
