3rd Generation 94 v6 tranny problem

hey guys , my car has a wierd problem with the transmission, when i start the car in the morning and if i floor the gas it will shift from first gear to the next perfect. but when the tranny gets hot and im at a dead stop and i floor the gas the tranny will jurk back and fourth like as if the car is runing out of gas. but if i put the drive selector in L or 2 it will shift fine?! and when the car is in (d) and im driving threw the gears when i get to secound gear and i floor it and when it jumps down to first gear it jumps and jurks i have to let off the gas... this only happends when the tranny gets hot, other than this problem the car drivers perfect, does ne body know what this could be ? a sensor maybe ? or maybe change the fluid? car has 135k miles and this tranny is out of a lexus es300 and only had 70k miles on it. it has been working fine for a year untill now....

Do a drain and fill. See if it improves.

That's quite interesting. When you're in L/2 the only difference is the 2nd Coast Brake, or whatever it's called. The kind that helps you slow down going downhill instead of coasting faster and faster as in D. So that should say something.

The only thing I can say is there may be problems releasing/applying a combination of clutch packs and such. Sticking valve body/solenoids???

Usually when we encounter transmission problems we check ATF level and condition. Try replacing the strainer/gasket, such as Fram ATF kit ~$15. Drain/refill, including the differential housing. See how that works for starters.

Do let us know the condition and level of the ATF.

Don't just look at the dipstick. It always looks better there. Tell us when you drain the fluid. Maybe catch some mid-stream in a clear jar.

Smell means nothing. Color means nothing. Only a UOA will tell you if the ATF is any good.
In my experience, most ATF's are all done by 30k miles.

Your transmission is already failing. So, what you do now won't help much. Lack of maintenance and abuse will cause any transmission to fail early.

But, correct level in any transmission is important. So, drain/refill it with a high mileage ATF and hope for the best. If you're lucky, you have some tired seals or sticking solenoids which the HM ATF should help with.

ATF needs to be check hot, with shifter in park, with vehicle running, on a level surface, after moving the shifter through all detents.

Did you check on level ground, engine running at operating temperature, cycled through all gears and then check? Parking brakes applied.

The fluid level should be between the two HOT marks. Otherwise sounds like the fluid is still good.

If the fluid is too high then just drain some out, or drain/refill the ATF with Walmart Dexron III compatible fluid. Costs ~$8 per gallon bottle. Works well. Fill it to the correct level and see how things behave.

The next thing, because it's a swap-in transmission, I'd check the electrical connectors. Sometimes you have to disconnect and click them back on to work the contacts.

If that doesn't help you may need to drop the pan and check the solenoids to make sure they're working. And maybe examine the valve body at the same time.

If the problem is with the clutch pack apply pistons then it's either a rebuild or maybe Lucas Transmission Fix or HighMileage ATF.

Just my 2 cents.
