I have a 94 5sfe and and recently I've noticed that my power steering is slowly dying. At first I thought it might just have been in my head, but every day it gets a little worse, especially at slower speeds. All I've done so far is check that there is power steering fluid, and there is plenty there. Does anybody have an idea what else might be going wrong? Thanks.

Do you hear squealing when turning? Try flushing the out fluid and putting some new fluid in. If that fails, then i reckon you'll be needing a new pump.

You know, my wife's '98 Camry is doing the same thing. I thought I was going nuts too, especially since my wife hasn't noticed any problem with the steering yet.

I haven't heard any sounds when it happens. It's weird because it seems to get worse the longer i drive, and when I start it up it's not quite as bad as the last time I drove it. I kinda got the feeling the pump might be the problem but I wasn't sure. If it comes to it I'll probably replace that.

Replace the fluid first, it can be done easily with the car not running use a turkey baster and take fluid outa the reservoir and refill with new fluid..Run the car and repeat...This method needs to be done several times to get mostly new fluid into the system..Good luck...Dave

Use a high mileage ATF like Castrol/Pennzoil HM or Valvoline Maxlife. Fresher thicker fluid should help.
