97 camry ac removal

How do I completely remove my AC from my engine bay? My AC stopped working and I'd like to just totally remove it to have more room in the engine bay. I never used my AC anyway. I'm sure it'll be less drag on the engine as well. Any tutorials or anything up for this?

i would imagine you just unbolt everything and then get a shorter belt to run your alternator. you will have to measure it yourself and go buy a generic 6-rib belt at the parts store - they won't be able to just look one up in the computer, since i've never heard of a gen3/4 camry that did not come with a/c.

that sucks that you need a new belt I was hoping to avoid all that hassle. I can remove the lines and everything except the ac compressor and still be good then I guess right?

you're right, but I don't want to spend over a thousand dollars to fix it, that's what shops are saying...and I hate having broken things in my car.

as a side thing - speaking of broken things... my sunroof goes up and it'll close but it gets stuck when trying to open all the way...any ideas on how to fix this myself?

as long as the a/c clutch is not dragging, your a/c does NOT put any more load on the engine when you're not using it. the only thing you will gain is about a 40 lb weight loss. not worth the work IMHO. just leave the a/c button off and you'll be fine.
