3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm planning on getting my windows tinted soon and I am wondering how much did everyone pay for their tinting. I've been calling a bunch of shops around my area and they are quoting me around $240-$220. What's a good price for a gen 3.5 windows being tinted?
It really depends on the tint and quality of work. Don't get some no-name crap brand or the tint will fade like my old car. Most tint has warranty against delamination, but may not have warranty against fading. When it fades ,you can see the area that is in the frame is darker than the rest of the glass.
I've had my 3M CS tint for nearly 3 years and no fade. It cost me $250 on my 2007.
quick question. since local regulations on car window tint differ from state to state and country to country ... what is the general rule of thumb for tinting?
do you tint all windows (including windshield which is illegal in some European countries) ?
what tint % do you use?
Maybe next year I will spend some bucks (first need to replace my cracked windshield before state inspection next year) on tint. would like to know what to ask about when inquiring local shops about it. thanks!

Reason: corrected a dumb typo :D
i dont recommend doing it yourself unless you already know what your doing of course. but here in AZ i got high quality tint, the "good stuff" from The Specialists for $110 from a local shop called AZ Heat Busters. Got the limos in the back and about 35% in the front..wish i woulda went darker in the front though
$110 sounds like a great price for all five windows!
The Specialists is a good brand for tint material? (asking because I don't know any others except for cheap brands in local stores): http://www.specialistscartint.com/
I was thinking about making the back completely tinted (like in a limo as FLIP K1DD referred). but i got no clue how dark front windows can be. I know some states on eastern coast can give you a ticket for certain level (and up) of front windows tint. will have to find that info before making decisions.
EDIT:
just found car window tint regulations for NJ (same as most European countries) - no front widnows tint allowed! darn rules.... I can understand windshield, but front side windows? why?
I was hoping for slightly tinted front windows ...
Quote:
Windshield No tint is allowed on the windshield.
Front Side Windows No tint can be applied legally to this window.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.
damn!
I'm jelous of California regulations!!! grrrrrrrrrrrr
Quote:
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.
well it depends because you could also buy a cheaper film from them. they got like 3 levels, worst middle and best. i got the middle for $110 from another shop. but the specialists is a shop that does car audio, tinting, and i think home theater.
i guess if you wanted you could still tint your front windows, but just drive with them down..itll suck during rain and winter though for sure lol
I'd be a bit weary about $110 if I'm getting the tint done. But then again, wages and leases may cost less elsewhere so that can affect the price of the job.
The windows are already tinted to 70% from the factory, so technically tint should not be applied to the front side windows.
i checked Google and some other forums for NJ/NY/PA prices and it seems $20-30 per window is quite normal price for small specialized shops around here. even found a dude in Newark, NJ (House of Tint) that does that out of his garage, been doing it for 13 years, is highly recommended on many enthusiast forums and gives a lifetime warranty ($20 per window)...
touringcamry, what do you mean that windows are tinted to 70% from factory ... you rather mean 30% (70 light through) I guess? or i'm wrong again hehe...
anyways in deed it doesn't change the fact that no one in CA should apply tint on them LOL, just realized that, sry am kinda slow and tired tonight

seems next year I will tint more all 3 back windows.
one stupid question though, since NJ does not allow tinting front side windows does it mean that factory tinted front side windows are illegal as well or factory tint is treated differently (you cannot applly more, but factory one is good)? all those regulations sound a bit obscure to me ...
besides what happens when you drive across the USA? what regulations apply to car and driver? local tinting rules or his/her home state ones? it's silly ...

Laser cut templates are not always the best.
The guy that did my 4th gen cut templates by hand, spent 6 hours doing the whole job.
He quoted me $200 for 5 windows and sun shield with the hybrid dye and metal tint. I
watched him do everything, prep is more than half the job, when done right it goes on
easy. He gave me $25 off that $200 because it took longer than he expected, sometimes
the old school tinters are the way to go
