i have a feeling it's not supposed to look like this:

my question is, how did it get this way without making any unusual noise?

The inside of an M90 doesnt look any different, the rotors will contact the housing a small amount when wearing in, that looks normal man.

well the s/c has about 100k miles on it, give or take. that's what concerned me. i'm still gonna have to put it back together as is, because i don't have the money to get it rebuilt right now anyway. i'll just put new grease in the needle bearings at the other end of the rotors (yes, i got the correct blue grease for em). my coupler looked fine - i actually had to pry it off the top gear inside the s/c, so i am going to keep it. anyone wanna buy my new, unused coupler?

more pics here: http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...0oil%20change/

i was a bit concerned when I pulled the rotors out and heard it scraping... and then saw the grooves in the edges of the rotors. it's obviously still making plenty of boost - you guys saw my "overboost" thread. and the pics of the spark plugs in the link above will answer that thread for sure - on the rear center plug, the center electrode was all but GONE - effectively making the gap almost .080!! I set the gap down to about .030 before installing the new ones.

Now i just need to find some of that loctite 515 or 518 to reseal the thing. i found it on
amazon amazon
, but i'd rather buy it locally and save on shipping and time. I would have just used plain old silicone RTV, but the guys at PSE superchargers advised against it. something about the fact that rtv would "hydraulic" whereas the loctite he recommended is anaerobic, and it won't hydraulic. what that means, i have no clue. i just have to have something - i know the housing was leaking, because it was a mess there, as was the top of the rear valve cover. at least the oil that came out was nice and clean.

depending on how deep those grooves are, your bearings may be slowly wearing out and having some play in them- you won't really hear it happening though, since it's so gradual. By the time you hear something, it's too late and its the bearings themselves that are done for- ask me how I know

as for resealing, I have always been a fan of using a thin cork gasket that's good for oil, coolant, gasoline, etc. etc. can't really go wrong with that. I've used it on 3 superchargers and they've all never leaked or had any problems

i could feel the grooves as i ran a rag across them to wipe off the oil/junk that always builds up inside a manifold. it came clean very easily, without chemicals. if i had to guess, i'd say they're about as deep as a record album's grooves, but not as fine.

my totally unscientific method of testing bearings (my fingers) says there's no real play in the bearings at the free end of the rotors, and the only play in them at the drive end is less than 1mm of axial slide, which i would expect. can't feel any play between the 2 gears, nor could i feel/hear any when turning the s/c pulley rapidly back and forth as suggested by the folks at PSE.
