4th Generation ecu tuning 1mz

so i'm going to a dino my gen 4 1mz and i have a question for engine management tuning. is it a difficult ecu to tune?
i'm not looking for anything out of the ordinary, a cat back and a short ram/ram cold air intake system

the intake system is effective since when u ran at a track i dropped my 1/4 mile time .4 secs b/w the first set up at about 70* track temp to the lowest time at 130* track temp. ha ha dk how that happened but yea

i run 91 oct on a day to day basis use octane boosters ocassionaly and my motor feels stronger than ever. tranny flush and new oil change b4 the tune will happen but the main question still remain, what kinda time am i looking do spend tuning the ecu?

there really isnt much point unless you do plan on progressing further with the car in the future. a tuner would only free up a few horses, mostly by leaning out teh fuel mix, but the ECU would likely reset it as they seem to do.

that being said, a piggyback wouldnt be that bad to install. youd have to wire it to the stock ECU wiring harness and its tedious but doable by just about anyone.

btw(dyno...not dino)

lol fml i was makin fun of a friend of mine making dino noises just as i was posting this... oops... and ok, i do plan on progressing with preformance.
new fuel injectors, lighter valves, new cam shafts pulleys bore and stroking, possibly boost. this is just to get me use to going to dyno days and getting a idea of how to tune.

but again would it be a long difficult tune?

well you wouldnt do the tuning i hope so not long or hard at all. expensive maby for a few HP gains though. the tough part is wiring up the tuner to the ECU harness. lots of wires and you have to get it right or screw somthing up. you jsut have to take your time and dont cheap out when it comes time to have it tuned at a shop.

if your plannin on boosting then i wouldnt worry bout most of that. tonythetiger has a near stock config(strong eveything) motor and runs 400+whp and eye8pussies has a stock longblock at 300(ish)whp. if your goin boost then you should worry more about compression ratio and how strong your intrenals and tranny are then your displacement or valve weight(more important for NA).

having said that, depending on how much boost or power ya want then youll have to figure out what path to take for tuning. piggy back(safcII) would be ok for lower boost/output numbers but highernumbers youd want an EMS.

figure out which path(boost or NA) and then go from there. but from my experiance, jsut hold off on the whole tuning thing till you get the parts and are ready to install them because tuning is expensive and if you get one and have it tuned(around 500 +beans) then add a performance part, ya may have to tune all over again.

if you can get in touch with him ya may want to PM tony, he owns a tuning shop and is a master of this type of info.

lol sounds good...
boost would be is at the extreme end of the spectrium though.
however i do have a contact with a trd sc for the 1mz.
referbed going for 1200 wit the pulley kit and adjustable belt drive line i think.
i'd still need to find a converter for my auto ecu, or a salora, since there more common,
and swap for a 5speed.
i plan on time attack, so i would like to as most NA as possible.
we'll see over time, seems like this dyno day is a bust cause every one else is a bunch of panseys.

thnx for the advice, sorry about the rant ha ha
