Question Replacing a Snapped Shift Cable

2000 Toyota Camry 4cyl

As you can see in the picture the link snapped(on top of Mt. Washington, NH ). Now, I thought I would be able to just replace the part that broke but it looks like I have to buy a new cable. Is that correct?

If so, how hard would it be to do myself? I can lift it enough to get under it but not sure how hard it would be to get the cable out of the firewall, center console...etc(and replace).

Thanks,

Dan

yeah, looks like the cable snapped off at the end, it'll be easiest to replace it

it's not too hard to run through the firewall- the hardest part is due to the fact that there's a small plate that keeps the shifter cables attached to the bottom of floor of the chassis inside the car under the dash/center console that gives you very little room to work with

to get to it, you'll have to remove your center console as well as the pieces under the dash so that you can get to the shifter as well as the area where the cables come through the firewall

it's an absolute bitch, but it's do-able
