Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was looking around and I bumped into this thread: More Light For Those With 9006 Headlights
It is basically telling us to replace the 9006 bulb (low beam) with a 9005 bulb (high beam) to get more light. I was wondering if anyone has tried this? If so, is it safe to use both the light mod and the high beams at the same time?
plenty have done it but a few have complained about it melting their wireing harness, which is prolly a result of old wiring. personally i think Sylvania Silver Star Ultras + Uber Awesome...or whatever the name is now...are a good alternitave(since your car is a 92)
i did this on my 95 way back in the camryman days. afaik, the mod is still in place and has had zero negative effect. as long as you use a standard 65w bulb you're fine. the wiring going to high and low beams is the same gauge so it can handle the power. it CANT handle 100w bulbs tho, which is usually the only reason people have issues w/ melted wiring.
it's just like the light sockets in your house that say "60w MAX" - the wiring inside can't handle a bulb that pulls more than 60w, and it will be a fire hazard.

Ok guys, I am ready to try this mod. Sorry I was unable to make this post earlier, I had a problem with my breaks (car wont stop - drove to school with hand breaks ) Anyways, here are the bulbs I am going to buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOT...Q5fAccessories
I just need someone to clarify the requirements of the mod and the bulb before I buy

don't waste your money on blue bulbs. get some regular plain jane sylvania, ecko, or phillips bulbs from walmart or your local parts store. if you really want light that is less yellow, spend a little more on some sylvania silverstars. you will not be disappointed.
if all you want is headlights that look blue, then don't bother with the mod - just get some blue headlights. either way you won't be able to see a damn thing at night and you will be blinding other drivers.
if you want the look of HIDs AND you want real light output, save up a little cash and get an actual HID kit. 4300k or 6000k color temp. anything higher than that adn you have the same problem - blue light that blinds other drivers and doesn't really light up the road for you.

LOL ty Gibson99 I knew something didn't look right with that word.
Anyways, I am going to go with the Sylvania Silverstar. I see it on ebay, but one has a grey looking package, and one has a red looking package.
Is there any difference?
Here is what I mean
I went there earlier to check, the guy said he dosen't have any instock. He checked the back storage room and he said he still cant find any. I will go back in the next couple of days to check again. But why do blue lights output more light, but less visibility?
they dont put out more light. 65w is 65w no matter how you look at it. if you have clear glass you get all of the 65w, but if you have a blue filter (paint) it only gives you a portion of that, so you don't get all 65w of output.
it appears to make more light because of the glare. it's the reason the sky is blue. blue light scatters easily.
silverstar bulbs have a thin blue coating on them, and don't produce blue light. since it's still mostly clear so you don't lose much of the 65w and the thin blue coating filters out the yellowish color from the headlights. i like my silverstars.

i bought some light on ebay a lil bit ago and omg... so much better that the salvania 50% i had in. they where xenon H4's bulbs. so much better color, better lighting, and they only cost me $10 for the pair with shipping and insurance. i heard that the drl can drain them and kill them quickly but i dis engaged my drl parking brake switch and removed the "BRAKE" light indicator behind the gauge cluster ha ha
