What do you guys think about this CF Hood?

Just picked this VIS hood up today. I'm using it as a temporary replacement for my stock hood which my friend dented. Should I keep it or go back to OEM?

Here's the stock for comparison:

I prefer the stock hood, I'm not one for the black hood. To me it makes the car look like it is in some sort of transition. Keep in mind I am a person that prefers stock over mod. I guess I am a traditionalist or old.

A couple of questions:

What is CF?

What is VIS?

cf is carbon fiber, vis is a brand name.

you can get a stock hood to replace a dented one for 40 bucks. or you can get a carbon fiber hood to save what? 20lbs? for 450 dollars plus shipping. sounds like you bought it and might regret it. seems like replacing the stock would have been much cheaper...I prefer all one color, if you keep the carbon hood, get the car painted and get hood pins... you're not saving all that much weight and if you plan on racing that camry, god help you!

I agree that the contrast between the hood/car makes it look incomplete. Nothing wrong with stock, I can see your point of view on that.

Give me some links/suggestions on where I can find one. I've searched local junkyards but none have anything newer than the gen3 in decent condition.

As far as the CF hood goes, I got it for $50 picked up locally. It needs to be recleared but other than that, everything is good.

In regards to racing Camry's, I agree it's not the best tuning platform but it can def hold it's own. A big part of racing is based on driver skill and several people have tracked their Camry's and Solara's numerous times with good results

I was thinking the same.

Kyle you're crazy, I'll let you know if I decide to part with it. I'm most likely keeping it though.

Haha this should be good for now. I was considering selling the car so this will be the last mod.

if your gonna sell the car then just do what ever is gonna pay more in the end. if ya keep the hood id seriously consider installing hood pins as well.

What benefits do hood pins have over the normal clip-type way of securing it at the front?

they keep your now super light hood from flying off. most CF hoods...even the good ones dont have as strong a bond on the latch as the OEM one(since its welded). some hoods dont need them but many do.

Kindda, my friend's gen 4 got front ended and need a new hood. I was actually the next second in-line to pick up that thing.

For 50 bucks I would still grab it anyways and resale later for profit
