Hello Toyota Nation! I'm new to this forum, just picked myself up a 93 camry v6 5pd and well got a couple issues, hoping you guys can help me out..
-gets hot when idling for a while, but once you start driving its cools down almost instantly. On hot days it will stay just under the red if your driving, will over heat if you leave at idle. also have no heat coming from the heater ever!
-the problem is a loud noise coming from the front driver suspension.. guy said it needs a new cv joint, but it sounds more like a strut because it feels like it bounces a lot over a bump.
thanks for all the help guys!
oh and by the way im 19 and this is my 5th toyota! gotta love em
Yeah, struts normally make them clunking noises after a bit of use... normally strut mounts.
Overheating on idle can be a few things. Coolant blockage, water pump not performing as well as it should, radiator and filler caps need replacing... bad coolant (either not enough coolant or bad dilution)...
I'd check the rad cap and filler neck cap. If there's not enough pressure, it'll surge the coolant out the overflow tank and drop the coolant level. That's only one thing it could be.
If it were me, I'd be taking it to the mechanic, getting them to do a power flush of the engine block and radiator to remove any potential blockages, replace the caps and put in some Genuine Toyota Long Life Coolant.
Could be worse, but try these first mate. If not, could be a fan related issue with the solenoid not opening up to allow the rad fan to go quick enough...
i was havin the same problem with my car overheating when idling a week ago. the problem turned out to be a leak in the upper radiator hose. my overflow tank was turning out to be bone dry and the coolant looked like mud under the radiator cap. so i got a new hose and got the system flushed.
check your coolant level & quality in the overflow then check your coolant under the rad. cap (be careful if opening when hot.

got the cooling problem taken care of! now i am just worried about this "rattling" noise in the front left.. over a small bump it will sound like the wheel is bouncing.. "clunk clunk clunk".. and over a the odd big bump i dont notice it makes a loud bang that you can definetly feel. one of those bumps where you say "OUCH" after going over them, lol. what do you guys think is wrong?
Clunking could also be the sway bar bushings. They're a common problem, and cheap & easy to replace.
Could also be the sway bar end-links. Another common problem. A bit more costly than the bushings, but also easy to replace.
Either one would more likely make noise when only one wheel is going over a bump, like a pothole. Going over something like a speed bump where both wheels move, they're less likely to make noise.

Agreed with the sway bar bushings. My car was clunking in the rear..passenger side. Jacked the car up, got under and place both arms on opposite sides of the sway bar. I just pushed up and down and listened, you'll hear a quieter version of the "clunking" noise. If you do, it's the sway bar bushings. 16 bucks at your local Napa and about 1 hour of labor if your bolts are seized.

Unless the sway bar bushings are completely deteriorated/gone, you can drive on them. The clunking will be annoying, but you're not damaging anything as far as I know.
I would just fix them though. If it is indeed sway bar bushings, it's a crazy easy job.

yea the clunking could be a bunch of things try tightening the strut mount pull the littel rubber cap off there you will see the big ol nutt sitting in grease(the rubber thing bolted to the car under the hood) i had a clunking noise from a loose strut
