4th Generation New Audiophiles help

So thank to the input, I am now goign to get some dynamat (or other padding if you know at a better value) and put it in with my spx-17refs. Im actually going with a jvc kw-nt1 for my head unit. I can install all this stuff myself.

I am taking the advice on putting some subs in the rear deck and taking out my 6x9s. however, I dont know ANYTHING about subs. Sealed, ported, etc enclosures... class a, b, etc ... all that stuff. What I am looking for is an SQ setup where the subs are clean and tight rather that car shaking. I am thinking of 2 8 inchers in the rear deck to replace the 6x9s (will that be too much?) and a good amp to power it all. I will probably get someone to install ti for me.

So anyone have any sugggeestions on type of amp (i hear zapco alot), woofer (i hear kicker alot), and enclosure i should get? Anyone also know a price quote to get an amp and rear deck subs installed?

Dont worry about budget. Im not lookin for top top top top end though. Just something that is a great value and will give me the tight punches i am looking for.

I think that you are missing one thing, by putting subs in the rear deck you still have to separate the back wave from the front of the driver. speakers work by creating pressure differences that correspond to the AC signal that is music. if the front is not sealed from the back, you are not creating pressure differences, your just moving air, and that will sound bad, very very quiet, and bad. That means that you can either build boxes for the drivers under the deck and seal it to the deck with fiberglass, or you can seal the trunk from the cabin, that means the big hole behind the seats and the various little holes in the deck itself.

To complicate things a bit more subwoofers are also designed to use the increase in air pressure inside of a box to help brake the cone, so it doesn't travel too far and either slam into the t-pole or rip the spider. Their are drivers that have suspension systems built to handle being outside of a box, they are called infinite baffle drivers, and they are not anywhere near a common as normal subs are, you can find them, but with 8 inches as your goal your options will be drastically reduced.

Ohh, but proper infinate baffle setups are teh sex, they sound really really awesome, but not that loud.

EDIT: If you plan to go that route this would probably be your best option.

A sealed enclosure would probably be the easiest way to get the sound that you are looking for, a single 10" or twelve inch in the trunk with 500W would be enough. You could go ported with good results too, but it would take a good box design to do that and still get the sound that you are looking for.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm going for two 10" subs in the rear deck of my car. One of the problems I had to over come is that the spring rods for holding the trunk lid open had to be removed, they got in the way, you should start by seeing if that will be a problem for you as well.

what if i just got one big 12 inch sub and shoved it in the middle of the deck, would that be "better" in terms of what i am looking for.

If you can fit one, IMO less subs sound cleaner than more smaller ones, 12" is going to be a close fit though, get out your tape measure.

BTW, just so you know our goals are not directly comparable, I am going for something a bit different, I may be only running two 10's, but They are taking 1500 watts RMS each.
