Guidance: CV Joint

Well, on my road trip down from NY-FL 150 miles into it, the car seems to vibrate like crazy. The car doesn't sit right, and the car vibrates violently especially between 60-75 MPH, and slightly less violent vibrations at 75+ MPH.

I checked, and the Passenger side CV Boot was torn, grease all over the place... splash guards, brake assembly. The car made it all the way to FL, I had no choice, but to keep going. I don't have my tools with me, and I am gonna have to bring it in.

Questions!

- Does it sound like the CV Boot is the culprit?
- Replace the whole axle?
- Bring it to Dealer/Other?

You can get a Cardone Select New halfshaft with lifetime warranty, or a rebuilt (of OEM halfshaft) A1-Cardone with 1 year warranty at many local parts stores.

Should be about $170 to get it swapped out at an independent shop. Dealer cost double that. Just make sure you don't end up getting a backyard rebuilt.

There are other causes of vibration -- wheel balance and such. I don't know what driving all that's done to your ball joint and wheel bearing either. But one thing at a time, the torn boot's gotta be fixed.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think since the Camry went 1200 such miles straight with a leaking boot, and with the kind of vibration i was feeling, i think I'll need a joint. I'm gonna take it to the $tealership, and have them deal with it. I just feel uncomfortable taking it to a shop I have no experience with or no info about, thats 1200 miles away.

Thanks Adam.
I'm on Ft. Lauderdale by the Sea/ Pompano Beach.

But I just came back from the dealership, Lipton Toyota if you've heard of it.

We'll of course right side axle was replaced, but the main thing causing my vibration (which I completely overlooked) the belts in the rear tire seperated, and luckily didn't blow.

So new right side front axle and two new tires. They're not DUNLOP . But, I'll live with it.

Cost me $520~ total.

But, the Camry was fine.
& the guy who brought me my car sure knows how to read a script...
Telling how he likes my car a lot.

Then again a blue on blue camry is pure sex.

Yup, Lipton is 95/Oakland. I actually like them ironically enough. I hate Hollywood.

I was just there 3 weeks ago. If you need other work when there, send a PM to 2WickedToyz here on TN. He's a well known member here and lives in Hollywood.

Yup.

The service rep, Robert Read, he was okay, friendly.
Telling me that this is a new service facility in the back.
& asked me why my car has only 63,000 some odd miles.
Just told him my car didn't get out til it was mine.

But thanks for the referral.
I know of wickedtoyz on the forum in the year of been here.
& i know you would be able to disassemble and reassemble my camry in 10 minutes flat.

Thanks Again!
