Common Update & Questions

So i have to drive up to wisconsin with the lady this weekend . I have a check engine light on. The codes are the P0401 code (comes up twice) and a bad Bank 2 O2 sensor.

I cleaned out the EGR today with brake cleaner. Replaced the gasket due to it being cracked. Cleared the code and have not driven it to see if it comes back on. I believe the next step is VSV. (Looking for a write up on how to replace that)

In the sense of doing some cleaning up, I cleaned out my throttle body with cleaner. Recharged my K&N and cleaned out my air box.

About a week ago i got my trans fluid changed and oil.

I'm in this upkeeping mood and looking for more things to do to improve MPG and get some better pick up on the car.
This may be a FAQ but it's an update on the ole girl.

Let me know if you guys have any input. Thanks !

I was quoted for a $900 job on fan belts and my water pump being replaced. None went out but they're all stock on a 123k car. How hard are belts !

ah man i forgot what theyre called. theres an accessory & a smaller one below that one, they connect with the alternator. those ones are easy. you dont have to change them, but im just saying check them before you drive off away and next thing you know they break and your stranded lol.

you can buy them for cheap and replacing pretty much you just need a wrench and sockets. can give more detail on that if you need.

not too sure about the water pump, i got to change mine myself. i got no experience there yet

The power steering belt and the Air Conditioning belts are easy to replace. If the timing belt is stock for 123k...you need to get that replaced. 900 dollars it the quote I got also, don't pay that. Find a local mechanic or a small shop, you can get it done for under 400. (Buy your own parts.)

At 123K you should have the timing belt changed, the manual calls for changing it at 90K. When you do the timing belt that's when to change the AC, PS and alternaor belts, 2 in total, as you have to remove them to get at the timing belt. When the timing belt cover is off you then have access to the water pump so have that changed, the incremental amount of labor is small and the part isn't expensive. Also consider having the oil pump seal replaced, again you have access to it at that time. I had a major oil leak at 140K on my '97 and the oil pump seal was the expensive, because of labor, culprit. I've paid $450 for the timing belt, belts and water pump.
