Air intake hose split

My 95' has a split in the air intake hose, between the air filter housing and the throttle body, just from wear and tear. I called NAPA and they said if my car meets California emissions (I live in maine) that they have the part, and it'll be $88.39 before tax.
1) How do I know if my car has California emissions standards?
2) Why is a simple hose so much money? Is there a cheaper place to get this part? In my area theres NAPA, Advance Auto, VIP, and Autozone.

i guess 88 sounds ok...???
i would just go to a local junkyard and pick up what you need instead.
im sure it would be much less than at napa.

i checked autozone and they have it for around 91

or you can jerry-rig it with some ducktape..

Yea I've been through that, greenpoint (scrapyard) wanted $50 for a used one. I ended up super gluing it and wrapping it with a thin strip of dynamat.

The sticker on the hood that says blah blah blah, this car conforms to U.S. emission standards for the blah blah model year, if that says it conforms to California standards than it's a California emissions car, if not it's federal emissions.

If you get a part like this at a salvage yard for a generation 3 Camry, chances are it won't last very long if it is intact when you get it. These cars are getting old. Time and all the heating and cooling cycles the engine area goes through takes it's toll on rubber parts, IMHO.

Age does indeed take its toll on rubber parts that live in the engine compartment. They crack, dry rot, etc.

From what I'm told you can check the VIN number for a U in the 11'th position
to identify it as a California emissions car.

If your car is not a California emissions, I may be able to help you. I have a new aftermarket federal emissions hose if you're interested (mine car is California).
