how to repair anti freeze thing?

HI. i have a 1995 toyota camry v6, i have looked a few times and saw at the top of the clear plastic antifreeze tank under the hood, and looks like it has a little crack up top, i cant see throw it, but you know how old plastic looks and when it looks like a crack with like 3 lines.

over past year i have seen like dried white specks on metal parts under the hood, and i think i saw somebody say on another thread that that was dried antifreeze.

I wanted to know if that is more than likely true, and what can i use to patch or repair, that part of the antifreeze tank? should i try a silicone, an epoxy? anything? Is this plastic thing pressurized?

For the price of the epoxy it may be better just to get a new reservoir tank. There are also aftermarkets for about $8-10.

The tank isn't really pressurized...but in the overflow mode...it will build a small amount of pressure as the fluid pushes out of the radiator overflow tube. When it cools down it will pull a slight vacuum. With the heat in the engine bay, this will create stress on the plastic tank and it will eventually crack.

If yer not really stuck on what it looks like...I'd just coat the top of it with some bedliner spray...

There is a systemic design problem on the location of the coolant reservoir tank on the GEN3 Camry. The location is such that some sunlight will hit the top corners of the tank and the UV deteriorates the plastic and it cracks and eventually breaks open in this area. I first tried fixing with fiberglass mesh tape and 2 part epoxy but the coolant fumes reacted with the epoxy and the repair got mushy after about 1 1/2 years.

I just orderd a new tank on-line for $15 (shipping included) and replaced it yesterday. This one fit OK on my 1996 Camry. They are slightly cheaper on Amazon.com, but Amazon doesn't ship to Canada. Dealerships up here want $140 for the OEM tank. IMO, not worth the time to repair when you can get them this cheap online.
