Oil Level Reading

After working on my wife's car today I checked the oil and it showed that it was down a quart. I added oil (less than a quart) and now it shows that it is over by approx a half quart (maybe slightly more). How big is the risk of driving at low speeds (no more than 40 mph)?

How much more? If it's only a little, i wouldn't be too worried. But if it;s over by a lot, i'd take some out or completely replace oil + filter.

Too much oil and the crankshaft churns up the extra oil in the crankcase, causing the oil to get foamy and full of air bubbles, air bubbles do not pass through bearings well, and would cause less oil to reach the top of the engine, thus resulting in lower oil pressure, and worn upper engine components and failed bearings. *from a yahoo answer that seemed relaible and logical*

I'm going to take the oil change route. My wife drives the car a furhter distance than when I was using it, so an oil change is in order.
