3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
First off got 95 camry LE with 80k miles on it. (5sfe). Im getting 23-25 miles per gallon. I put new ngk wires and plugs in. Seafoamed in the tank, oil and throttlebody. Just put new struts on and I drive mostly highway to work so not to much city plus where I live there is no city driving really. I drive about 70 on the highway. Tires are properly flatted brakes are good. Thinking about replacing the drums in the rear. I read people getting close to 30 and more. I am going to the stealership tomorrow to get the fuel filter off. Bottem bolt frozen on there. Any ideas and what gas mileage should I be getting?
It all depends on how you drive. I always keep Overdrive on and power off, and I get near 28 mpg doing a mix of city and highway driving. I'm very very light on the pedal though. Slow acceleration doesn't bother me. I didn't buy a 96 Camry to drag race.

I followed my brother with him pulling his camping trailer down the freeway going 65 up hill 80 down hill. Going about 300 miles I ended up with 38 mpg.
i got 1/2 a tank on a 450mil trip from NY to PA and back...giving me 30mpg. Do you accelerate alot? WOT all the time? Simple things like that affect the gas mileage

No WOT barely getting on it. Tach never goes above 3 1/2. When I get on the highway its early in the morning so no need to get on it. Plus this is why I got the car to be slow and good gas mileage. Had 450hp eagle talon tsi so no need for speed anymore.
Replacing my timing belt did a world of difference. It is possible at 80k miles and 12 years of life that your belt is worn and may have already skipped a tooth.

A few months ago I got a '95 5SFE Camry with 134K on it, replaced fluids and filters, and started driving it. The original owner took good care of it, timing belt was changed at 105K miles.
Have been keeping close eye on mileage, after about 8 tanks I get between 28mpg (mostly city) and 33.4mpg (mostly highway). It averages out to 30.5mpg.
City wise, I dont like it when ppl think they can "box up" my camry, so I have WOT a lot, still manage to crank 20 city.

Recheck your speedo to make sure it reads correct , with GPS or drive 60mph , go by a hwy mile maker, and time it, should take 1min to get to the next mile marker.
try seafoaming the camry. but some in the gas tank and through the brake booster. then get new spark plugs and new plug wires. make sure the air filter is clean it shuold bring you up a bit
