Semi-Circular Plug part number?

My 2000 camry is having a oil leak from top area and having already changed the valve cover gasket I'm told that I need a semi-circular plug and prehaps a distributor o ring. Does anyone know the part numbers as I cannot find them anywhere.

Your 2000 Camry doesn't have a distributor, so there is no distributor o-ring. 1996 (generation 3) was the last year Camrys used a distributor. I'm not sure what is meant by semi-circular plug. Do you have a picture.

I don't know what semi-circular plug you're talking about, but I can tell you the 2000 Camry does not have a distributor so you don't need an O-ring for that.

Can you describe where the semi-circular plug is?

I have a friend with a 2000 Camry that's leaking oil from the top side too and even after valve cover seal replacement, it's still leaking. He still hasn't found the source and he's lazy so he's not actively trying to fix the problem. But the problem started after he jumped a curb and hit a hill, so there's probably underlying problems causing the leak.

My 2000 Camry hasn't had a problem with oil leaks and we're about the same mileage with ~90,000 miles, but I haven't had any accidents.

You don't need new semi-circular plugs. You need to reseal them.

Go to your local parts store and buy a Permatex Ultra Grey. Clean the mating surfaces with alcohol and make sure there is no oil on there. You also need a dab where the plug seams are. Do not apply to the valve cover gasket.

If you need a new valve cover gasket set, it's $16.62+shipping:

the semicircular plugs (aka half moon) are solid aluminum and never need to be replaced, however they do need to be re-sealed now and then. i reseal them when i do the valve cover gaskets. they are located on the driver side end of the cylinder head and will pop right out with a little prying from a flat screwdriver. clean off all the old gasket material on both the head and the plug, and just before you reassemble, put a bead of new silicone/rtv/fipg (i use permatex ultra black) on the half moon and drop it into the slot. level it with your fingers and smear a little of the excess rtv over the seam made by the half moon and the head. drop the valve cover on with new gasket in teh channel and tighten it all up. same process for the circular plug that fills the hole where the distributor used to be.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but there isn't a lot of threads on these plugs.

When I pull the full circle plugs, what are the torque specs for the bolts that hold them? It appears they are held in by a couple bolts similar to the ones that hold the camshaft. Do I need to do anything special when removing the bolts that hold these plugs?

Any particular tips when removing the half circle plugs?

thanks in advance
