Another Camry Owner

Hey everybody,

My friend who I helped find her a car about a year or so ago needed to have her sister get a car after her explorer wheel bearing or something went out. since I found my friend a 1995 V6 LE Camry Last year (Friend just got a '95 LE V6 Thread on it), I was able to find her sister an 1994 White V6 XLE w/ ABS Camry w/ 176K miles for just under $1200. Loaded too. (Seems to have everything except for CD player, alarm, and spoiler)

The car overall is in good to fair condition. Engine has typical 'surface' brown stuff at oil cap entrance. Body is straight. No big dents or rust. No obvious signs of rust. Paint is good except for pealing clear coat all over the front two fenders and trunk area. Interior is all sun damage (leather cracks), but overall is in good shape besides that.

Some problems I have noticed though visually inspection (I'll test drive tomorrow and take more pictures). I'd like to fix these problems to get the best out of this car.

- (Not really a problem) Sunroof works perfect. Anything I can do to maintain it (i.e. prevent leaks)?

-Power attenna wasn't working. I connected it and when it fully extract out, it starts grinding. I'm thinking the gears in the power atenna assembling needs replacing?

-The Driver side sun visor doesn't stay flush with the roof. Is this common or what? You can keep on pushing it to the roof, but it'll just return half position.

-Driver side power seat does not function. The adjuestment for the back is fine, but I can't move seat forward or backward along with the adjuestments for the seat (front up and down along with back up and down). What goes wrong with these anyhow? When I try to press the button, I don't hear anything. Only a 'clunk' when I try move the seat backwards.

-Light under sunroof doesn't work. what kind of bulb is used and how do you take cover off?

-CV boots are both starting to tear. joints appear good. Cheaper just replacing boot or doing entire axel job?

-Right side air vent thingy doors all going all kind ways. PITA to change the vent?

-Missing AC Compressor.

Thats all I have for now. I'll be posting more stuff later.

Thanks,

I can answer a few of your questions.

For all the bulbs use this site:
http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/
I would print out the page for the 94 Camry and keep it in the glove box.

"The Driver side sun visor doesn't stay flush with the roof. Is this common or what? You can keep on pushing it to the roof, but it'll just return half position."

I am the original owner of a 94 Camry XLE 4 cylinder. My passenger side visor did the same thing. My drops down just a bit; not halfway. Dealer replaced it when new, but it didn't fix the problem. I decided to live with it and suggest you do the same.

"CV boots are both starting to tear. joints appear good. Cheaper just replacing boot or doing entire axel job?"

You can replace just the boots if the cv joints themselves are still good. Do you hear clicking on turns? If you do, the joints need to be replaced and the cheapest way is to replace the entire axle with a reuilt one. If you don't hear any clicking the joints are good and the boots alone could be replaced. Many shops don't like to replace just the boots, as it's a messy job and it's easier for them to just replace the entire axle on your dime. Call around to shops in your area and ask.

DUDE, that site is awesome! thanks

Yep. No clicking on either side. The boot looks like it is just starting to crack. I told her she needs to do them ASAP.

Anyhow, I did notice something strange. When I took the car for a test drive, I went to my friend's school to take her car for a test drive. Upon starting it up after it had been sitting for several hours, it had a 'chirping' noise coming from the belts area. I tried reving to see if it was rev or engine related but the sound still kept the same speed. The noise eventually got softer and went away as the car warmed up. I had a shiver that the water pump bearing might be wearing out...

Anyhow a few more pictures...
