im getting a new stereo to replace my old aftermarket, and i really have no idea what im doing.

can i simply plug the old connector into my new stereo? i dont think i can because my old one had the 12v fuse built into the unit, and the new one has it built onto the 12v wire.

if i have to splice, does someone have a site where i can figure out what the crap im doing?

(also, is it absolutely necessary to remove the ground from the battery while working on it?)

Yes... remove the ground, lol..

Um, you're best off getting the adaptor harnesses from the shop you bought the HU from. They'll have different harnesses made for different model cars for the HUs. You CAN do this yourself, but if you're an absolute noob at this, then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole mate.
