INFO: Why the $%#& are my gen3 gauge and HVAC lights out?

I've seen A LOT of posts about people's gen 3.0 and 3.5's losing their lighting on the dash and HVAC panel. As in, it seems that every bulb has burnt out at the same time. Adam (ASG14) and I investigated since I had the same problem show up on my 96. Here's what we found:




your dimmer switch out of the dash board....obviously something wrong...


opened up...you can see towards the top where there is a heat sink.


closer in on the heat sink... we think this may have overheated and caused a problem, or a short in the circuitry inside the switch may have caused the excess heat.



keep in mind that that may not always be the cause of losing your lights... but it seems like a likely universal cause across the gen3's

thats been done, but i might as well take care of adding that anyways.
