Hot air filter housing

Just a general question because I barely know anything about auto mechanics..... should my air filter housing be pretty hot to the touch after driving for about 20 or 30 minutes? I've been having issues with hesitation and stalling while accelerating, and it was really terrible when we had a heat wave here, and seems to be magically going away as the outside temperature is dropping. During the heat wave I would notice that the air filter housing was pretty hot, and wondering if this is related.

I wouldn't think so, but have you tried the throttle body coolant bypass yet? That'll help cool TB temps a bit. Write-up/how-to is at the top of this sub-fourm, i think maybe in the FAQ.

I live in Houston and when I first got my car (4 cyl.) the stock air box was very hot to the touch especially during the summer, burn yourself if you keep your hand on it too long. It's pretty normal for everything under the hood to get really hot.
Also had that kind of "hesitation" you're talking about for acceleration but mostly during low RPMs. I didn't have any stalling problems though.

After I switched to SRI, it got better but there was still a bit of "hesitation." When I got CAI the response got significantly better, but at the cost of some MPGs. It seemed that the air intake temperature affected the throttle response, hotter was slower and cooler was quicker.
