Hey Folks.
I put a new set of Monroe quick struts on the rear of my 94 4cylinder camry a few months ago. I'm looking to replace the fronts and see that monroe doesn't spec any quick struts for the front on a 4 cylinder. They do spec the 171955 & 171956 on the front for the V6.
Question. Would the V-6 struts fit and/or what's the difference?
The car has 235K so all the rubber bits and pieces are rotted or just gone.
all the aftermarket springs and struts i've seen say they work on both i4 and v6. if anything, i4 springs are slightly softer to let it sit at the same height as the v6, since the v6 is a little heavier.

Did it, they don't make one. Guess the 6cyl one would cause a higher ride height. I'm going to have to buy all the parts and piece together a whole new strut assembly.
Buy the regular struts and rebuild them. It is pretty easy to do and if you did the quickstruts the job is probably not beyond your ability. You can rent the spring compressors from Advance or Auto Zone if you don't have them. I bought the boots and stops from Advance. I cut the boots from the rubber seats as they are one piece and put on the new stops and boots. That was the only catch and if your boots and stops look good you won't have to do that.
So your method would replace everything except the coil springs? Do coil springs sag with age? They are 15 years with 235K miles on them. That's why I liked the quick strut method.
My front height is about 2" lower than spec and my back is about 1/2" above spec with the new back quick struts. So my headlights are aimed in the dirt right now. I've tried adjusting them up to no avail so that's why I'm asking all these questions. Is a front end that's too low a result of shocks or is it the springs or how can you tell?
Got to thinking about your delima. I thought I recalled seeing fronts for the 95 so I went to the website where I bought mine and checked for the 94. It says the part numbers you mentioned are for the 4cyl. See the link http://www.shockwarehouse.com/index....cted_year=1994
I appreciate the research, I really do. But I called Monroe's 800 number last week and spoke to someone and she said they did NOT make a quickstrut for the front on a 94 4-cylinder. If you go on Monroe's website and put in your vehicle's info, it will show the quickstruts for the front only if you select a 6 cylinder engine.
I could not get the search on the monroe site to work. If they indeed do not make them you have two choices:
1) Buy the strut along with bearings and new springs. Make your own QS's.
2) Rebuild using your old springs and replace them if the front sags too much.
Good luck. I hate when the choices are not easy, answers not simple, and money is involved.
I think they are full of it, because I had alot of trouble finding the front Quickstruts for my 93, but they DO exist. They should be the same for your 94. I searched everywhere and finally a guy at an O'Reilly store near here found them.
well the parts are identical from 92-96, so you should be able to use any parts from that year range. if you find different part numbers on older models, it's likely because toyota upgraded those parts, and the old numbers will supercede to the new numbers.
to answer another of your questions, yes, springs do sag with age and use. and it sounds like your car's seen plenty of use with over 235k miles! that's part of why monroe sells these quickstruts. not to mention the safety angle of not having to take apart the springs...

Can you find out the part numbers for the front quickstruts on your 93?
