3rd Generation So, I ordered KYB GR-2 for 96 camry

I ordered a set of kyb gr2 for my dad's cam. I just received it today, and 2 of them say GR-2 (334170 and 334171) Those are the front. Now, I have 2x Excel-G (334133-334134) Those are the rear. The front and the back are completely different color. Also, I checked out the part number from pepboys, and all the numbers match the kyb gr-2 number. What's going here? Is the Excel-G as same as GR-2?

I don't know about the names and numbers, but with my GR-2s the front are silver and rear are black. Also I got mine 3.5 years ago.

Thanks! I verified with the seller. It seems like the excel is a different name for it in different countries. Also, excel is black.

Check KYB's FAQ. It's the same things, except a mix of branding. They should be moving towards Excel-G, because GR-2 name was here and Excel-G just started showing up (?).

I'm not a fan of Keep Your Bilsteins (aka KYB). They feel like old-time progressively dampened budget parts. But YMMV.

Q: What is the difference between the KYB GR-2 and the Excel-G products?

GR-2 and Excel-G

We apologize that this is a bit confusing. Both products are identical except for the product name and paint color. KYB sells products throughout the world. Some part numbers fit vehicles from various countries that share the same chassis platform but have different nameplates. At one time there were several KYB brand names, but we are now moving toward one name and color. So in the future all new part numbers will be called Excel-G and have black paint.
