UK To re build or not?

Hi guys it's been a while.

I'm getting to a point now where I want more power. What I'm looking at is to either spend some money on my engine (1mz-fe). Or maybe start another project.

What I'm looking at is an intercooled vortech v5 supercharger set up, hopefully looking at around 350 bhp+. Going with forged pistons but will I need con-rods. Would the standard ones be able to handle that kind of power? Also I've been told that 2gr con-rods fit staight into a 1mz and would suffice as an upgrade. I've touched on this subject before but it's hard to get a definitive answer as to what the 1mz can take. The engine is running 285 bhp at the moment, that's with a trd supercharger 4 psi, custom headers and exhaust and a standalone ecu. I have supra 44cc injectors to go in there as well.

Any info/advice much appreciated.

Phil.

280 bhp on 4 psi??? what have you done to get that much out of the 1mz on 4. guys with a full tune, all supporting mods and 5 speed arent running that. if your ONLY at 4 psi then screw a different setup and just up the boost mate.

but if your lookin for more power...check out solaraguy.com and look for trd4life's M60 charger kit hes workin on. its gonna be a direct bolt on just like the TRD AND can the removed from the intake manifild. it would be perfect for the numbers your lookin for.

i call 285 hp whp bullock, u need at least 7 psi to do that

dump money into forged internals is a good idea. 2gr engine components aren't as strong as 1MZs...dunno about rods but generally speaking, newer motors cannot handle much more than they were designed for.

get forged internals and get more boost out of ur blower or twin charge it

Hi guys I have a mr2 the 1mz was transplanted in there. I run a straight through exhaust system with no cat, custom headers, stand alone ecu, trd supercharger, air induction kit and water injection. The car on it's last run made 283bhp, the injectors maxed out though.

well i never said he was lying. i was lagit in my curiosity because ive never seen that much power squeezed from 4 psi on the 1mz...and ive seen ALOT of setups. but i can see how the near lack of exhaust, standalone and water injection would help get it there.

3vz isnt really that much better, its the OBDI that is the real advantage there. both motors are very good when built properly though.

as for the OP...as i suggested before. either up the boost or check out trd4life's kit he puttin together. but in all honesty if your gattin 280bhp out of 4 then you should hit your magic number south of 8 psi and within the efficency(relativly) of the TRD charger. though you could jsut sell teh TRD and put that money toward the M60 kit.

ive also notoced that you were refering to 283whp(what we call it here). when you said bhp i didnt think ya ment to the wheels. 283 whp makes me even more courious how ya got that much out of her. quite a good job youve done there. car looks awesome too. i was thinkin of doin the same with my motor when my car starts to get older.

Brake horsepower compared to wheel horsepower is waayyyy different... don't think you could convert it, but wouldn't it be around 200whp? Maybe a bit more?

I keep forgetting that this 1MZFE TRD supercharger setup is on an MR2, not Camry. There's literally no exhaust at all when the engine is at the rear end, all free flow. So it makes sense

it does to an extent...but not an entire 40+hp(if thats a wheel dyno then its well over 283 crank) over the stock 240hp the 4 psi pullie produces on the stock 1mz motor. from his mod list, theres nothing out of the ordinary(that i can see) for a 4psi build other then a standalone, which is where i have my money. also, there are guys rollin with 3" straight through exhaust and they are not pullin numbers like that on 4psi.
