Custom DX/SE trunk panel

ok so i just started my custom DX/SE trunk light center panel. Got the chrome letters that spell out SCEPTER and glossy black paint + clear coat. i taped up everything i dont want painted and vuala, it looked picture perfect. just waiting till the paint drys to add the scepter lettering...

but as soon as i turned on the car to see if the square lights would show, they did. every time you step on the brakes the square brake lights shine through the black paint. which i dont want. i disconnected the light bulbs and that solved that, but now every time you go into drive the car's dash shows that the bulbs went out or arent in, which is quite annoying.

any ideas on how to fix this problem? how to trick the car into thinking the bulbs are in? im thinking about blacking out the bulb so no light shines through so it could still be plugged in..idk help :\

You can put on load resistors that are typically used for LED bulbs to trick the sensor. It's one load resistor for each bulb so it gets expensive quick.

Blacking out the bulbs would be cheaper and easier though. You'll need a paint that wont melt/burn from heat though.

aw man i wish i was speedo smart. i dont trust myself taking that out and disconnecting the wires..dont want to disconnect the wrong one. if you could plz provide me a more in depth explanation on that i would do it because its cheaper, and im pretty much not using those lights anymore..

as for the load resistors, sounds like a good idea to do the job right. i seen a cheap one for like $14. says you pretty much connect the ground to ground power to power. makes sense, but do these things burn out over time also?

i was going to do the same thing to the side lights, but if the squares are going to shine through the circles, im not sure i want to do them anymore. would look good during the day..hmm
