Ok I have a 1995 camry xle v6. After about 2 years of a pesky leak ( i hope only up top) I decided to do something about. When i took to dealership 2 years ago they told me the leak was having something to do wiht the gasket for the spark plug hole things ( not their exact words lol) OIL was leaking from on top of valve cover that is up front, appeared it was coming out of area with coil packs.
So i bought those cylinder gaskets, and a valve cover gasket and took it to a local shop (never used them before) dude changed those three cylinder gasket things, and valve cover, started it up, no immediate oil leaking, i drive to gas station throw few gallons and checked under the hood, NOTHING WAS LEAKING. i get home sit down have a celebratory drink. and then relax for a while. I come out and see a small amount of oil coming from the area of the far left coil pack. So i run back to shop, and dude tells me i needd to replace the spark plug / coil boot. so aft4er calling around i found a store that has in stock and purchase ONE. i run back to shop. and pop hood and see that not only is oil coming from the hole where the coil pack on far left is, but also the middle one. So dude goes on and changes out the coil boot/spark plug boot on the far left coil pack. I call part store and ordered 2 more for the other 2 coil packs. Ok next day i pick them up, and take to shop and dude puts them on. I RIDE around about 2 days, (pretty light driving) notice no oil leaking, till day 3. It seem the middle coil pack is the main one oil is coming from, if any is coming from the far left one its only a small amount.
Keep in mind, i only saw him use something that looked like an electric impact wrench, or driver, (not good with tool identification) but no sort of torque wrench when putting back on the valve cover, or the coil packs.
WHAT COULD THIS PROBLEM BE ? . please help me figure it out. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
The round things are spark plug tube seals. I think this area is where your engine is leaking from? Well they should seal properly. Is your PCV system working? maybe also change out the PCV valve and grommet (~$10). Just in case the crankcase isn't ventilated properly and have some positive pressure to squeeze oil out.
Otherwise new valve cover gaskets and tube seals should NOT leak. IMO, I don't think is' got to do with spark plug wire boots. But others may disagree with me.
The valve cover should be torque down properly, as with most components. However, this would affect the leaks primarily with valve cover gasket, not tube seals. Maybe check the direction of the tube seals again?
My 2 cents.

yes that is what i purchased from dealership, thee valve cover gasket and tube seals for the valve cover that is up front.
there appears to be NO oil leaking from the actually gasket of the valve cover, just the area where the coil pack comes out top of the valve cover. I wil try to see if can borrow a torque wrech to try to see if the coil packs are tightened to spec. other than that i am lost. Any other suggestions?
