Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Illinois apparently recently passed legislation allowing for tints to applied on all windows. I have always had the mentality to get limo tint (what i call the darkest possible film) when it came time to tint because it seemed like the logical thing to do but am thinking about the consequences.
What do you guys reccomend in terms of percentage for my fronts and rears? I would hate to get the tints and then realize that I can't see anythign at night.. i dont even have HIDs yet to makeup for anything. I would like to get 100% in the rear and then maybe something lighter in front althought i would like to keep it uniform. I want 100 throughout but will visibility become a problem?
Looks like your tint is done over there with a different rating.
Legal tint here in Australia is 35%... normal stuff that you see on cars. The darker the tint, the lower the number. At 25% it's obvious it's not legal. I know you can get tint down to 3%... the same that the Ambos use here in Emergency Services.
Could go 25% on the fronts and 15-20 on the rears?? Would look good..
No we have the same rating system in North America, he just seems to have misunderstood the rating scale, the percentage is the amount of light the tint allows through. 100% tint wouldn't be tint it would be clear, and limo tint is usually 2.5%-5%. As for the actual tints on the windows I think 5% is nice for the back windshield and rear door windows. As well as 20% on the front doors and maybe 35% on the front windshield. That is if you wanted to go full car tint.
my fault guys. I am obviously not the expert here when it comes to tint jobs. my real question is that if i were to get the darkest tint offered which would give me maximum privacy, how difficult would it be to see things at night? I can imagine myself taking lone streets at night with minimal street lighting and dont want to have to roll my windows down everytime i need to see.

if you get limo tint, it will be extremely hard to see at night. I have 20% on all my windows and even when im in the city with tons of street lamps, i sometimes have to roll my windows down to make sure when im turning im not running anyone over.
i had 15% on the sides and back. that was a little bad at night. my buddy had 5% on the sides and back and it was nearly impossible to back up or see out the sides. he always had to roll down the window to back out of a driveway at night. i ended up removing mine after having it for 5 years because of the local police where i now live (ohio's limit is 50% on the front side windows).

Very very hard at night if you got limo tint(usually 5%). It'd be a nightmare, i personally don't have the rear tinted and the windows @ 50%, but only becuase my uncle had some film lying around which meant it was free

if you want limo tint and you live in a suburb or semi-rural area, you're better off painting your windows with black paint IMO. Its about the same thing.
If you have 20/20 vision, I say go 10-15% all around, 35% on the front windshield.
I want to maximize privacy and block solar radiation but definitely want to be able to parallel park and back in and out of driveways/spots. I would like to keep it same all around even though id like to have limo in rear but could see that becoming a problem real fast. 50% seems to be the legal limit in illinois but 35% can pass for most cops although with the new legislation I dont think I will have a problem getting something darker.
Something "Private" yet able to see... I'd imagine 25% would be your best bet.
Sometimes you can get a 35% tint that has a dye through it to make it that much more darker... over here it's called "Midnight Express". It's still 35% and legal. I'd be going 35% or darker if you want on the front windows and 25% on the rest of the car. It's also illegal to do the windscreen too... except for the top part.
