3rd Generation Why Blembo rotors? Why Toyoto pads?

Hi,

I've read allll the posts and it seems that almost everyone recommends Blembos & Toyota's brake pads for the best results.

Why? Is there any hard data out there? Or just "feelings" (Whoa, whoa those feeeeellllings....")

Thanks,
Tedders

Meh... I use Bendix coz I reckon they're one of the best... ?

I guess it's opinionative. I spose there would be some kind of graph, but it'll depend on the quality of the pad in that brand that you're after.

Actually, for higher performance braking people are suggesting, among the combinations, Brembo and Hawk HPS.

There are also cryo freeze rotors (low temp treated), slotted, crossed-drilled, etc. However, as far as ceramcis go, Akebono ProAct is good for normal duty driving. Toyota's cermaics are said to be a cheaper version of the Akebono, with only EE friction rating, instead of the ProAct's FF, as one owner saw on the "edge codes" of his Toyota pads.

As far as data goes, I'm sure there are technicals such as runout, etc I recall reading. Maybe Maserati, Porsche, Mercedes SLR, Ferrari, etc, can provide you with concrete data.

Does anyone think Ferraris run on Aisin brakes?

Compared to generic or many value brands, Brembo's manufacturing and QC has a better than average reputation, just like raybestos, Wagner, etc.

funny you should say that... when i last did brakes on my miata, i figured i didn't care about name brand rotors. i did get good pads (carbotech panther+ in front and axxis ultimate in back), but i got the cheapest plain jane regular rotors from o'reilleys i could get - about 15 each for rears and 25 or 30 each for fronts. when i opened the box (which said wagner), i found that the edge of the rotor said BREMBO.

that right there tells me that brembo blanks (the other name for a non-drilled and non-slotted rotor) aren't anything special.

LOL - That took way too much effort!

I use brembo blanks/akebono ceramic, very nice and quiet combo.

You drunk mate? That's one hell of a statement right there!

You'd find most people would recommend something that they have used or had experience with. I can't comment on Brembo coz I've never used them. Quite honestly, I doubt that many people would notice the difference between different pads unless they're "brake freaks" or the likes.

lol....im waiting for a decent cash flow to start saving after for some brembo slotted brakes with hps brake pads and SS brake lines. I know the slotted ones kill your pads but i do heavy breaking here in the city so i need the most breaking power i can get also planning on getting the es300 dual piston break caliper for the fronts just my setup that i wish i had and going to save for to get....

ps. this is way off topic

You mean all this time I'd been paying ~$50 for Brembos? I kept getting Chinese rotors in those $15 boxes!!

Anyone know what it takes to put gen 4- six cylinder calipers on a gen 4 4 cyl front end. I already have the 15 inch wheels. I notice BTW the front calipers on my son's 95 six cyl are two piston. I wonder if they are the same as the later es 300 units. TO the point, I just put raybestos rotors on and they were Chinese.
