CD-Player Issue with Camry 2000 CE

Hello Everyone,
Let me first thank you to everyone of you who took time to read and help me solve this issue.
I have a Camry 2000 CE, and just today as I was returning from office, I realized that my CD player is not working. It ejected the CD that was already in it and went to the radio channel automatically.
Later, after this realization, I tried to test it by inserting different CDs that I have (both commercial as well as home made computer written!). There was no response. All I saw was DISC icon whenever the CD is inserted however, there was no TRACK1. Also, there is not error message.
Can anyone tell me whats happening and what can I do to make it working.
I referred to the Toyota Owner's Manual and all they say is that if this occurs take it to the dealer. I don't want to go to dealer.

maybe try a lens cleaner disc... if that doesn't work i would just get a new stereo
