Seatbelt Problem

I have a 1999 Toyota Camby LE. My left rear seatbelt does not retract.

How do I gain access to this seatbelt assembly to either free it up or replace?

If it's like my Gen 2 Camry, open the boot and by the hinge, there should be a little black thing attached to the body. That's the seat belt reel. There's a plastic cover on the reel that you lift and it will reveal the anchor bolt. Make sure you don't try to lift the top of the reel, that's the spring mechanism and will snap back to neutral, completely stuffing the belt as you won't be able to put it back on.

I think you need to remove the seat cushion or side cushion trim to reveal the other bolt. Should be simple if you follow it.

How do you remove the cover? Anything special in regard to doing that?

Nope. There's a little tab, you lift it and it pops off.

mine just did this on my '96 camry - it turned out the spring popped off. i reattaced it, re assembled everything but then it popped off again a day later. a replacement was about $10 at the local salvage yard.
