sleeper

hello. i recently just bought a 1997 camry le and i would like to make a sleeper/daily driver. i can buy a v6 for 200 bucks from a junkyard and put it in and was wondering if this would be the best improvment for the money? would it fit in very easily or? how much do chips help? turbo kits? any help would be appreciated.

thanks

ps how much of a hit would the mpg take with these mods?

it would be best to do a search on it

it takes more than just the motor to do the swap. you need the engine harness ecu transmission fuse block axles and various parts. it would be best to get a front clip.

also there is next to 0 aftermarket support for the 1mz or 3vz engine.

i would think swapping engines is hard enough but it sounds like you are tryin to swap out the I4 and put in a V6.. theres gonna be more stuff you need to get not just the engine...

but.. a v6 idles better.. drives smoother etc etc.....

'they' say the cheapest & most reliable way to up power on a i4, is to sell the car & buy a V6 Camry.
I tend to agree, there is barely any aftermarket support for either block.

No, not really. If you are looking to have some fun and have some spare cash laying around you should buy a "play" car to mess around with.

the thing is i've done a i4 to v6 conversion before.

i had bought a parts car from a towyard and it was a v6 so i stripped it and put all of it's parts in my car(complete front and rear subframe assembly front wiring harness and fuel pump). i bought the spare car for 400usd. so yes it could be cheap to do.

but the question is

ARE YOU MECHANICALLY INCLINED?

the camry is VERY hard to make a sleeper(depending on your definition of sleeper). mostly because even when theres a descent amount of work its still just as fast as newer cars. so you wont really be suprising many. but you can make a fun car to drive.

a swap to a V6 IS the best idea if you keep this car but only if you swap to a manual too. in which case finding a whole doner car will make things MUCH easier. if thats too much money, then swaping from the auto to the manual in the 4cyl is a good way to make the car more fun as well. but this all depends on, as 2wickedtoys put it, are you mechnically inclined? if not then it will be expensive to have done for not much gain...which ever swap you choose.

the BEST option for you is to save your pennies, take good care of the car you have(for resale) and get a V6 5 speed camry/solara(or another vehicle all together).

search for 5s-gte or 3s-gte.

the 3s-gte has the most aftermarket and if your lucky in the junk yard (i mean lucky) you can find a 3s-gte.

other almost retarted options are the 20v 4a and the Formula Atlantic 4a.
