3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
After two unsuccessful attempts to replace the power antenna on my 1995 Camry wagon, I simply want to put in a manual one. I can't find anything online that seems like it would fit. Does anyone know of a replacement, or can I simply buy some kind of cheap mast and push it down in there?
THanks for the advice. It looks like these replacements are no longer available for the wagon, which has a different set-up, due to its location. I'll check ebay--always a good suggestion.
Were you able to install a manual antenna on your camry wagon? I'd like to do the same thing. Thanks.
Actually, I gave up looking and just jammed something into power antenna to keep it extended, so it works for the radio, but doesn't retract into the car. Life at 180K!
It's not clear if this is a motorized antenna or a manual. The problem with replacing the motorized is trying to get the plastic cable inside to seat properly in the motor down below. That's why I gave up.
Yeah................Well i wonder if there's a piece of broken cable in there......and i wonder if your antenna has a real cable like they used to have like in the 1980's or if you have a the newer cable that is a plastic strip something like a cable-tie or zip-tie......if it's the newer style then it's real common to have a broken piece of cable stuck in there so that you can't get your new antenna to drop fully............just wondering, don't want to sound like a know-it-all......jim

Per the diagram on this website, it looks to me like 86337-06020 is the mast for a power antenna. And JimBowNut is probably right; there's probably a chunk of the old plastic whip broken off inside the motor housing. I had that happen on my Avy, and it wasn't too hard to open the housing to get it out. Hardest part was getting the whole dealio out of the trunk to take it apart, which wasn't bad. I have no idea how hard that might be on a wagon.

I actually did take the motor apart and remove a piece of broken cable. Then, when I manage to seat the new one, it didn't go all the way down. I pulled it out and tried again, but couldn't get it to seat, so I finally gave up and jury-rigged it.
Glad you found a solution. I still would like to have a manual antenna. I did buy a power antenna to replace mine but I believe I broke it during the install so back to square one. I take it none of those "universal antennas" from autozone would work? I too have a camry wagon (1994).
