Looks like something that would come up when you shift to those "auto manual" transmissions, like in the new Camry's. But to the best of my knowledge those didn't even exist with our generations.

I've was wondering this too.

I was doing my friends center shifter cluster and there was an 'MANU' spot...but nothing that I knew would turn it on. On her cluster itself (the speedo/tach), on the far bottom right (when looking at it), there looked to be two spots where there was 'PWR' and 'O/D'...but the backing of the cluster didn't have the green film cut out to put a bulb there (below fuel gauge).

Unless the JDM model(s) had different option and used the same cluster.

BTW my friend has a '95 LE V6 auto

I also noticed some of them have the lights labled on the green ribbon. But this ribbon is redish brown and has no labling just some Japanese characters on the top.

Apparently the Japanese cars had options for electronically adjustable suspension and traction control. It could be the light for a "manuel mode" for one of those possibly. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_199...EPGK_8411.html

When I first searched around about this all I could find is someone posting the exact same question on a different forum with no answers about that light being on her 1992 Subaru Legacy.
