Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
this weekend i flushed my radiator and i did the transmission differential and gasket/ strainer (thanks to the howtos here on tn) and everything went good. now for the issue, i notice my alternator is starting to wine =x now i have a couple of pretty powerful amps in the back of that thing for my sub and speakers =) and i was reading on here before and i read something about being able to use other toyota alternators in the camry that put out more amps. witch spec cars/trucks are they from that will fit right into my 98 camry. how many amps does the normal alternator put out? thanks everyone for there help =P
oh and i forgot to mention its the 4 =P

I think i saw someone mention that alternators from landcruisers might fit. But i'm unsure of the bmodel years.

why not just get an alternator for your specific car & model that puts out more amps? at least then youll know it will fit perfectly. go here, http://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/
i think stock alternators are between 60-80amps, if your kickn over 1000watt amps your really gonna need an alternator that can keep up with the battery drainage. like a 130amp alternator. if anybody tells you get a capacitor, theyre wrong for this situation. capacitors are for more bump basically (if your car can already handle it).
well it would resolve alot of the problem..you might need a better battery (if you dont have one already) yellow top is perferred. and pretty much you'd be good after that..now if you want the full potential of your amp get the big 3 wire upgrade and capacitor plus small amps for your car speakers
i dont have the best battery in the world but its not bad. i already did the big 3 i dont really believe in capacitors =P and i already have the amp for the car speakers

did you end up getting the high output alternator off that website? I am currently thinking about swapping a Highlander alternator in for mine sometime within the next few months. It seems like the early 2000 model ones particularly 01-02 are the ones that I am gonna have to look for that are a direct swap. anybody have any info on this or have done this already?

i did buy the alt and it works. but its only 130 amps at like 3k i believe. its not too strong =(
the stock one on my car is about 70 amps so this would be a significant upgrade to go to 130. Although for a high output alternator it is cheap in its pricing, i know I can get a highlander one for around 70 off of a wrecked one with as low as 70k miles. how is the build quality? any problems?
does anyone know what is the latest model highlander i can get the alternator off of and be a direct swap?
