I've done this job twice and it's not all that difficult.

You'll need to get the car up on ramps or jackstands to get enough clearance as the rear O2 sensor is almost in the mid point of the car. A 7/8" open end wrench (IIRC) is what I used to loosen it. You can give the wrench a couple of whacks with a hammer to get it loosened.

The connector is under the drivers seat. They are only 4 bolts holding the seat in place and they're easy to remove...tight but no rust. After you remove the bolts just tilt the seat forward...or take it out if you prefer. The connector is to the right of the vent tube under the seat. I put a small cut in the rug to pry it back and gain a little more room. You squeeze the connector to get it apart. Then push down on the rubber grommet and it will come right off. Put some anti-sieze compound on the new sensor and be patient trying to start it into the pipe. They have a fine thread that is easy to cross.

Make sure you get the rubber gromment properly seated so no water gets inside your car. It took me about 45 minutes to do the job.

Good luck!

rear sensor

The sensor wire can be crimped and soldered and a "universal" denso sensor without a connector is cheaper than the exact replacement. That way you don't have to go digging inside the car. Just be sure to weatherproof the splice well.

Borrow a sensor socket from Autozone using their free loaner tool program.

If you want to use a universal type, Bosch has an excellent planar type that's more resistant to contamination than old thimbles, and it has a water proof splicing kit.
