Weird acceleration response

Well to start off, I have cleaned the throttle body thoroughly and my air filter is clean. PCV valve isn't too old.

My car accelerates really slow. It's most likely due to the fact that the car is slow itself, so that doesn't bother me too much. I don't have another 4 cyl Camry to compare to, but it feels fine for now. What does bother me though, is this little thing I keep feeling. Sometimes when I'm accelerating, let's say up to 40, then let the gas go, I see the RPM meter drop, and then maybe .5-1 second later, the car will do a little "boost". As if it still had a tiny bit of gas left to burn. It only accelerates it like 1-2mph, but I can feel the car jerk when it does it so it's enough to annoy me.

Ideas?

That's the thing though, my response is great. When I step on the gas it responds immediately. It just responds...twice. It's weird.

Hi, is it an auto or manual transmission?

i know if its an auto, and you have overdrive switched on, by letting go of ur accel, ur revs will drop, and after a few seconds the transmission will swap to the O/D gear if you are coasting at a fast enough speed.

This sometimes feels a bit like a kick in the back depending on how rough ur auto tranny is.

It is automatic and I always had O/D on. My tranny isn't rough though, it shifts extremely smooth for the amount of miles on it.

kick down cable makes sure it is adjusted right, what your trans is doing is sitting there in i guess 3rd waiting for you to accelerate more and when it relisese your not it kicks in to 4th and locks the tq converter like in a manual letting out on the clutch with your rpm's too low.

Just the converter locking up and/or OD engaging, completely normal.

Mine does the same. I find it kinda cool. The 2.2 Camry isn't fast but it pulls steady.

Karl,

To check if it's the OD kicking in and out, just use the button to turn the OD off and then see if it does the same thing. It may be perfectly normal, as the other's have said.
