Also check the radiator cap. It may not be holding pressure or the small vacuum return valve isn't working properly. Ideally you don't want the hang-loose plastic valve but a spring loaded return valve.
Then you need to make sure the thermostat is operating. It's at the return of lower radiator hose. Aftermarket thermostat without jiggle valve can trap air. You should at least feel the upper hose warming up.
You can borrow the cooling system pressure tester (#OEM27049) from Autozone's free loaner tool program.

Check the water pump operation by feeling the surge in the hose when restricting it. Check radiator fan operation. It should come on when it gets hot or when AC is on (in that case both on).
If all these check out maybe get a radiator shop to do a hydrocarbon test in the coolant and they can also check for radiator restriction with an IR thermometer.
