4th Generation lights

I was looking at my keyhole on my 99 camry and noticed it has a clear ring around the ignition. Is that supposed to light up at night? if so could anybody tell me how to remove some of the panels to get the bulb? as far as I know if it used to light up its been burnt out for atleast 4 years. thanks

It will be off after couple seconds(maybe 1 mins). Don't worry about that.

Yes it is suppose to light up. If you take that small panel off and unplug a few things you can take the light bulb out and replace it with a new bulb. But before you take the smaller panel off you need to pop off the bigger panel under the steering column.

My 2000 has the original bulb in there, and it lights up when I open the door. Its nice so you can find the ignition in the dark.

My friend changed the bulb for me in a matter of minutes. It lights up when you open the door and when you unlock the car with keyless entry I think.

I have Camry 94 L4 LE.

That keyring lights up when open the door. The problem is it turns off too fast, only last maybe 6 sec. My apartment garage is not well lit so I wonder if I can increase the duration of the light at all.

YOu need to take off 2 plastic panels above your legs and above your knees.
You need a smallish flat screwdriver. You'll see small plastic cover the size of a coin just above your knees. pry off, then remove the 10mm bolts. There are 4 of them, plus 4 more with a philips-screw driver. Then remove the coin-holder by pressing both side with your index and thumb, then remove the screws. In summary, you need a portable flash light to see them.

Finally, you can access the plastic cover near the keyring.
PS: you can still drive around with the panels off.
But when disconnecting wires, be safe: disconnect the battery 'coz of the airbag.
