3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I live in the worst state in regards to window tint, New York.
On a sedan/coupe, law states that both front and rear windows must be 70%.
(As for an SUV, the rear passenger windows can be tinted.)
The only window allowed to any tint is the big rear window.
Now, I want tints to clean up the look of the old camry.
For those in NY, what tint set up do you have?
For everyone else, what do you think if I "bent" the rules.
I'm contemplating 50% front, 35% rear, to maintain decent legal status.
I know, I should just get same tints.
Or should I just get 50% all around, I've seen 50% hardly looks tinted so I could get away with it.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

depends..are they hella strict over there? if not im sure you could get away with a tad bit darker...or look into the reflective tints. the silver/metallic reflective tints looks good even when its light tint
im in NY with you... i roll around with 20% all around and it is dark. I am a bit lucky because my interior is beige, so the tint doesnt look as dark, but at night you cannot see in at all.. i have only been pulled over once before(got the windows metered and everything, but i had a pba card) and followed a few times.
if i were you i would go with 35% or 50%. 2 of my friends on here(saybakgung and dcemureviews) have both been pulled over for their 35%(dark interiors though).
keep in mind the factory glass is slightly tinted... i've heard up to 20% opaque, 80% light passthrough. make sure you take it to a shop that is aware that the stock glass is slightly darker than clear already.
I dont think my car has any tint on the windows, I think it only began in 1994, I could very well be wrong.
I have PBA, SBA & all those cards, even a NYPD parking plate (mom is a cop).
But, Thank You, I still dont want to get a ticket, or even pulled over.
I dont know what to choose.

I mean you've seen tinted windows everywhere living in New York. I'd say the cops are pretty lenient, but to be safe, I'm not tinting my front windows, only back and rear. Pretty much they just want to be able to see who's driving.
i think i'll go 50% in the front? idk i want to pull 35% in the rear.
The thing is my mom isnt too keen on me tinting my windows, I told her its my car.
