Opening drainage for tranny

I got everything ready for changing the tranny fluid. I sprayed the drainage bolt with rust remover spray three times with in 4 weeks. Today I went there and the screw is stripped. Not all the way but I can't open it with 10mm hex bit it slips. What do I do next??

Can you get a bigger hex bit? 7/16 (imperial size) and tap it in with a hammer first.

You can get it from these online sites:
1sttoyotaparts.com
toyotapartscheap.com
toyotapartsstore.com
toyotapartscenter.net

Use Toyodiy.com parts reference guide to look for the part number and search those sites for it.

Once you have the new drain plug bolt, try using locking pliers to take it off.

(7/16)inches*25.4(mm/inch)=11.1125mm

Edit: conversion is 25.4 mm/inch, I originally typed 25.2. Sorry for the typo.

... huh, didn't know that. Guess they're not as complete as they appear to be.
Guess the dealer is the only place to get it from then.

would it be better idea to unscrew whole fluid pan and drain it slowly that way. replace the gasket and not touch drain plug?

Toyota dealers should have the drain plugs, call and ask to make sure they have it before going to buy it.

My dad has a 92 GMC Sonoma with a tranny pan without a drain plug so the only way to drain it is to take the pan off. I'll tell you it is one messy job. I didn't have an oil pan bigger than the fluid pan to catch the fluid so it just got more messy. I've done it twice and it didn't get any easier the 2nd time.

You can do it this way, but it turns an easy drain/refill job into a more difficult job. Draining the fluid before taking off the pan makes it so much easier when you take the pan off for cleaning or change filter.

IMO it's not worth the hassle over the cost of a new drain bolt.

I got the replacement drain plug from the dealer. I went to the mechanic and told him to loosen the old bolt and i do the rest. I didn't take the pan down just because I don't have space for this much but new fluid makes the car go much nicer. I'm satisfied Thanks
