Question another cv question

i know i know...."search button"....and im sorry but i just want a straight direct answer as i am in need of one...

ok so i've been reading up on this cv joint/boot/axle thing

i have been experiencing the symptoms of a broken cv boot/joint...not sure but all i know is that when i turn to the right i hear clicking noise....and loud ones too...im starting to hear some when i turn to the left also, but not as loud...

i read that if i do hear the clicking noise then its pretty much over for my boot which cancels out replacing the boot itself...theres probably dirt and grimes all up in there already..

i've been hearing the clicking sound for maybe a month now...give or take a week or two..

my question is....if i was to take it to the shop, should i replace the cv joint or the whole cv axle thingy?? and how much does it generally cost???

again im sorry if this is a repost, but i'm planning on repairing this asap and in need of an answer.....thanks

3rd Generation

Yes ^

Because they have to take apart things that will throw it off to access it. Did you look at your CV Boots? What's the condition?

i didnt look at the cv boots, but im pretty sure its done....as stated before there are loud clicking noises as i make right turns...and now left turn...so im assuming that the cv joints are already dried up...having the mechanic check/replace tomorrow...

if there are any more inputs on this before i take it in tomorrow morning, i would greatly appreciate it..and thanks for the inputs guys

A rebuilt halfshaft locally is about $60, and a new Cardone Select about $70. You can get cheaper online, but you have to pay shipping twice (getting the part and sending back the "core" if getting a rebuilt).

These halfshafts typically carry lifetime warranty. Not sure if the warranty covers boot tears in the future.

Experienced shop shouldn't take more than 30 minutes each side. However, they'll probably charge you 2 hours of labor? If you do both with rebuilt, look at probably $300-400.
