2.2 way weird idle stumble

Hi, I have a 1996 2.2 camry with the standard idle stalling feature I've been reading about here in various posts,, I'm seeing lots of info on tbi and iac cleaning but here is my issue,,,this car runs great locally back and forth to the store, all around town, till you get to about 11 miles of distance, than it starts acting up,at complete stall it will start right back up, shut off and let to cool, the next day same thing, great till you get about 11 miles,,is the iac a heat controlled unit, does it take that long for these engines to get to "operating temp",,, any info would be appriciated,,

I had a similar problem about 2.5 years ago. My car would misfire and stall a little while after the engine warmed up completely. Turned out I had a bad ignition coil.

What would happen is the coil would just work when cold, but as the engine heated up the coil, the impedance within the coil would increase, causing the engine to misfire and stall.

This was a pain in the butt to diagnose because I had measured the coil previously, but it was cold when I measured it, so it appeared to be in spec.

^ I have to agree. The 2 most common things that will cause stalling when a car heats up are a weak ignition coil and a weak fuel pump. Check the coil when the car is warm using a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual. To check the fuel pump, you will need a fuel pressure tester and some fittings to tie in to the fuel rail, and again the specs from a manual. If you don't have a manual you can download a Toyota factory service manual at the top of the Camry forum over at AutomotiveForums.com. Download the generation 3 manual.
