well the engine is in and everything is more or less wired and attached.

when i turn the key the starter kicks over it kind of backfires and then the electricity stops for a second and it does the same thing again. this is right after charging the battery at the store.

it is getting a spark. i have grounded the transmission wire and have also tried connecting jumper cables to the starter and body as an extra ground.

there is gas coming through the return line so i think that is ok.

any thoughts?

you need to make sure everything is attached. there is all kinds of stupid little things that plays with the way the engine runs and starts and all that. I had similar problems too, which was caused by a sensor not being connected.
